March Madness by Armone Sullivan
It’s March Madness at ACC and for us fitness junkies that means sculpting those summer bodies into their final shape so they are prepared for three months of sunbathing in bikinis, wearing strapless dresses, and showing off our toned legs in shorts. Some of us have been working hard to maintain all year, and others are really worried they won’t hit that magic number before the beach barbecues begin. For women, this pressure is intense but, interestingly enough, more anxiety over this time of year seems to come from the male end of the sex spectrum. In a society where hairless, sculpted bodies are the media norm, it can be hard for a lot of men to come to grips with their lack of a perfectly defined six pack and beautiful, broad shoulders. And, unfortunately enough, it can be hard for women to understand why their hubby doesn’t look like a miniature Hercules when his shirt comes off.
I think it’s important for each of us as individuals to understand that our expectations of our physical appearance can sometimes be flawed. Men, when you are looking at those fitness magazines, watching the NFL Combine, or sitting at the edge of your seat during a UFC match, understand that these men (and women) are professional athletes; they train every day for those results and quite honestly, most of us women don’t want an overly ripped spouse that is crazy into himself. This summer I encourage everyone to strive for personal greatness and realistic goals. Would you rather be the guy walking around shirtless looking like his life resides in the gym or someone with a lean, toned body that looks like he can still enjoy a beer with some friends?…Yeah, I thought so. Be comfortable with yourself, love yourself, and work hard to better yourself. Summer here we come
I was born and raised in Indonesia. I came to the US to get my degree in Chemical Engineering at UCSD. After graduation, I worked at Qualcomm and stayed there for 16 years as an IC (integrated circuit) Packaging Engineer. Basically, I was responsible for designing a protection of the circuit inside the cell phone. I was granted several patents for these designs over the years. Now I am a stay home mom for a 6-yr old son that goes to La Jolla Elementary and a 5-yr old daughter that goes to Gillispie. I met Nelson while I was working at Qualcomm and he’s always telling me how great the studio is and so I decided to give it a try. After my first class, I knew right away that I belonged to this studio. Everyone is so friendly. The teachers are very talented, caring and dedicated. What I like the most of the studio is that they make you feel like a family here. I love you guys!
